This is a bit of a history of my experience with the ForFun Bangkok latex/rubber manufacturer and where things stand as of May 2025. All of the below is true as seen from my side of the fence.
I would like to preface that I realise sometimes how long a custom suit can be to design and make. I've been in the custom critter suit making sphere for over 20 years now and have been friends with many designers and makers over the years, however what I've dealt with in ForFun and the last few makers has been ridiculous considering the amount of money involved in these suits now. ForFun in particular may be a victim of their own popularity but to me that still doesn't excuse the behaviour I've experienced (and been told others have also experienced) so far. So if you're reading this, buyer beware.
If you want me to add your own experiences to this list please let me know over at lomax(-at-)squeekytoys.co.uk
On to the timeline:
- Back in Jan 2022 I contacted ForFun about creating a leopard/snow leopard suit based off some images I'd seen of what they could do on Twitter. I only received a stock reply saying they had got my email at this point in time.
- Then in Aug 2022 after seeing an experimentation they'd made around leopard/snow leopard rosettes on Twitter I decided to re-contact them and ask again if they were interested in making such a suit.
- A few emails are sent back and forth in Aug where the basics are hashed out and the suit was to be based on the following image: Spec Photo - No more contact is made from their side of the fence. This should've been an indication.
- I attempt a follow up in early Dec 2022 as I'm still really interested in getting the suit. I'm told I'll be contacted buy the end of the month.
- Next contact is in May 2023 when I try to follow up again if they're still open for custom suits and get a reply back saying they're almost ready and that production time is 6-10 months.
- I reply back that I'm still interested, re-conform all the details, including colours etc. Production time is now 6-12 months.
- May 2023 I get the formal agreement the suit will be made, I provide measurements and pay the first deposit of close to £1k.
- Nov 2023 I write to them to double confirm a couple of the design decisions as after re-reading the back and forth in May I'm not convinced the design requests were fully understood.
We talked and a few other things are confirmed and cleared up.
- Early Jan 2024 I'm contacted to re-confirm/get colour swatch decisions for the paws and extra secondary colours.
- Mid-Jan 2024 since I've mot heard of the suit being started as yet, I contact ForFun about adding on a pair of opera style gloves to the order in the same style to augment the suit design. These are agreed and I pay the additional cost of about £160.
- At this point there has been no design images of the suit in question beyond my sending them the original image above. There's been no indication that the suit has even been started or in progress so I'm still assuming nothing has been done yet.
- Early May 2024 I receive an email saying that the suit has been completed and a single front-of-suit shot (seen here: ) to which I agree that the suit looks good and I'm happy to receive it. There's no back shot provided which I soon realise is likely deliberate. I pay the final deposit coming to around another £1k. So about £2.5k in total.
- Mid May 2024 the suit is out for delivery and I'm really looking forward to it.
- End of May the suit is received and while I can say that the overall fit and design was as expected, there were some really serious issues with the suit that would essentially require a re-build. These can be seen here but are also listed: ForFun Example Issues
- The rear sheath had the measurement units switched. I provided cm and the measurements were in inches. Meaning the sheath looked ridiculous.
- The hood/neck was slightly too long, meaning that once the suit was fully zipped up the eye-holes were pushed forward down to under my nose essentially blinding me.
- I had gone for the magnet attachment for the muzzle instead of the popper latches. The magnet on the left side of the face would not remain stuck.
- Possibly due to the magnet not sticking any movement of my head would cause the muzzle to just fall off my head.
- The sheath design was not as I had sent them and requested.
- The overall design is not quite what was agreed, but considering how long I'd been waiting for things I was fine with what was done at the time.
- Early April 2024 I contact ForFun and we go back and forth over what is possible and eventually it is decided that I'll send the suit back for a complete re-build as these issues are meaning that the suit is just not suitable. Cost about £30.
- I can see the package is delivered due to the postal tracking but there's no conformation they have the suit by ForFun. Given the cost and money involved in Mid April I ask them to confirm that the suit has been received so I know that it's not been lost. I get the conformation.
- I'm told that they're dealing with a lot of emails and the workshop is a bit busy. Which is fine, but was a sign of things to come.
- Mid June 2024 I contact ForFun again asking for a potential timeline of when I'll get the new suit back as so far none has been provided. I get a reply back saying they'll try and aim for Aug 2024. This obviously never happened.
- Due to issues happening in my own life at the time the deadline of Aug 2024 passes without any contact or updated details. I email them again at the very end of Aug asking for an update and get told that the workshop is busy and that they were short staffed due to some people leaving. Fair enough, my own issues are still taking up most of my time so I leave it at that.
- September 2024 I get invited to a convention in Oct and decided if I could get it back I'd love to be able to premiere the suit there and get in contact again with a reply saying they'd try.
- End of Oct 2024 I contact ForFun once again asking for a new timeline and possible time for completion. I get warned that the workshop is sill short staffed (this appears to be the go-to excuse now, as of writing they've been short staffed for over a year) but they've put it in the timeline and it's scheduled for Dec 2024.
- Start of Dec 204 and ForFun post on their BlueSky account a leopard suit that looks much, much closer to the design I originally requested from them, but in yellow. ForFun Leopard
At this point I contact and clarify that *this
- design was what was originally asked for and for that design to be used in my colours.
- End of Dec 2024 I contact to see where things are in the process and get told the team is planning for Jan 2025.
- End of Jan 2025 I contact them again reiterating all the issues at hand since it's now been over 6months and clarifying some other things. I get a reply saying the suit is being worked on and will be shipped soon and asking me to re-confirm my home address.
- End of Feb 2025 there is still no contact and no movement on anything so I update my already bad Google review of ForFun telling of the issues I've had with both the suit and company itself. This prompts an email saying that photos etc were provided and that I'd agreed that it looked good. This is, of course, working around the fact it was a single photo posed in such a way to hide the biggest issues of the suit. Why did I agree on a single photo? Because of the suits I'd seen them build over the years gave me confidence that things would be fine overall.
- After some back and forth I get a conformation that this time I'll finally get more photos showing the entirety of the suit before I agree that things will be sent.
- End of March 2025 I contact ForFun once again, asking for when I'll either get a timeline of when things will be completed or the suit itself and get a reply back claiming they've received a high volume of emails, the suit is being worked on (but no deadlines or dates provided) and that crafting such a suit is a big undertaking. I'm now just fed up with things and create a large BlueSky thread outlining my issues (most of which are covered here: BlueSky Post)
I also update my Google review again and write a few comments on some ForFun videos on YouTube as well as airing my issues in various Telegram groups only to be told that other people have had similar experiences.
- I eventually get in contact with the owner of ForFun via DMs. I'm told once again that the suit is still in the works and that they are short staffed (full thing here: ). My request for a timeline and possible dates for completion or at least to know where I am in the current queue go unfulfilled.
- Early April 2025 I get a reply asking to clarify the colouring again. After conformation this is as of writing the last contact.
Considering the money involved the lack of professionalism from ForFun has been highly disappointing. The lack of contact and keeping the customer involved should not be happening. The "lack of staff" excuse also seems to me to be a big issue if the short staff issue lasts for over a year.
I will however say that this last point is not entirely unique to ForFun as my experience with missed deadlines and zero contact is somewhat common with not only latex manufacturers but may companies where you're left with zero idea about what's going on after money has exchanged hands. But it IS disappointing coming from a store that tries to make out it's a bespoke high class establishment. Mistakes and issues happen, that's just how things are. It's how you then deal with those issues that show how good a company you're dealing with is and so far, unfortunately, ForFun fall far far short and seem more interested in promoting their new designs and suits than sorting and dealing with older issues first.
